Symbols of loneliness?

I’m working on a project using the song The Lonely by Christina Perri and I need a few things to symbolize the words in the song. Like being left empty and lonely because of a lost love(which is what I think the song’s about)

Is it ok to use symbols or characters from movies or video games as t-shirt designs?

I started an online shirt store, and design my own graphics. I have seen many shirts out there with symbols or characters from video games or movies (i.e. hot topic, online t-shirt sites like ninja-bot.com), and just wondered if I can use these as well, original image or modified, or do I need to contact the source of the image and get consent? Even if it is a parody of the image? I have some good ideas for graphics, but I dont want to break some copyright laws or anything. example: could I take the heartless symbol from kingdom hearts and put it on a shirt, or is that a copyrighted symbol needing consent?

PS- a friend told me that as long as it is a parody of the image its ok, but I wasnt totally sure about this.

Are We All So Illiterate? Whatever Happened To Attempting To Write Correctly?

It breaks my heart to see the way people write here! Is this the accepted way of communication now? If it is spelled similar and gets the point across with primitave symbols and gutteral slang then it is OK? Have you ever read a beautifully written letter? I feel like I’m out to lunch with my Grandmother and her slip is showing underneath her dress. (You don’t want to break her heart and tell her). If anyone understands what I’m saying, feel free to chime in…
